Become a fully licensed AZ truck driver with Ontario’s most comprehensive MELT program.

TTCC’s industry-leading, 260-hour AZ Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) program prepares you for a successful, long-term career as a professional transport driver. Our ministry-approved training blends in-class instruction, extensive hands-on truck time, advanced skills development, and lifetime employment support to ensure graduate success.

Why Choose TTCC for AZ MELT Training?

Our program is built for real-world trucking careers. Students train on their choice of automatic or standard transmissions, receive air brake Z endorsement, and access industry-leading safety facilities and tools such as skid training and unlimited simulator practice (never used as a substitute for truck hours).

Choose Your Transmission

Will you exclusively be driving trucks with automatic transmission?

Why is the transmission important?

AZ trucks can have automatic or standard (manual) transmissions. The type of truck you use for your road test determines which trucks you are legally allowed to drive in Ontario. To avoid restrictions on your licence, we encourage training and taking the road test in a manual truck.

Many long-haul, regional, and vocational trucks use standard (manual) transmissions, while newer highway and delivery fleets increasingly use automatic or automated manual transmissions. If you have an employer in mind, ask which type of transmission their fleet uses.

At TTCC, our AZ MELT training is available in both automatic and manual. We highly recommend training in manual to give you full flexibility.

The Manual Transmission Advantage

Expand Your Career Horizons with Manual Transmission Training

Driving a manual transmission truck may seem intimidating, but with the right training and support, it’s easier than many expect. Manual training not only unlocks a full AZ licence but also equips you with skills that make you more versatile and in-demand across the trucking industry.

At Transport Training Centres of Canada (TTCC), our experienced instructors guide students step by step, using proven teaching methods and advanced simulators. Most students gain confidence quickly and are shifting smoothly in just a few weeks. Our road test guarantee ensures you can succeed, no matter your starting experience.

Manual training also positions you for long-term career growth. Jobs requiring manual transmission often offer better pay, wider opportunities, and increased mobility across Canada’s transportation, logistics, and construction sectors.

Automatic Transmission (Restricted Licence)

Automatic training is available for students who prefer a simpler introduction to truck driving or who plan to operate exclusively automatic vehicles. TTCC provides the same expert instruction and simulator support for automatic learners, helping you build confidence and skills safely.

While automatic training can meet your immediate goals, manual training remains the best way to maximize career flexibility and open more opportunities.

Train at Little or No Cost
